Topic: Classical Narratology Lecture 2: Narrative Time in Chinese and Foreign Literature

Speaker: Wang Feng, Dual-degree Ph. D. from Free University of Brussels and Tongji University, Director of Interdisciplinary Translation Research Center, School of Foreign Languages, Jilin University. Research interests: narrative stylistics, corpus translation studies. His research results have been published in Foreign Language Teaching, Chinese Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Studies, Journal of Foreign Languages, Journal of Xi'an Foreign Language University, Shanghai Translation, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language E-Learning, Chinese Semiotic Studies, SAGE Open, Perspectives, Critical Arts, Studia Neophilologica and other core journals at home and abroad.

Prior Reading: Chapter 6 “Narrative Time” in Shen Dans Western Narratology: Classics and Postclassics (Figure 2). Please make sure to read in advance before attending the lecture.

Synopsis: The Interdisciplinary Translation Center of the College of Foreign Languages at Jilin University will conduct a book reading activity on “Classical Narratology” based on the reading of the classic work Western Narratology: Classics and Post-Classics. This is the second reading session, and the main points of the reading include: story time and discourse time, chronology, time spacing, and frequency in literary works. The literary works that will be discussed include Mulans Tale, Journey to the West, Red Sorghum, Robinson Crusoe, One Hundred Years of Solitude and other classic Chinese and foreign literary works.

Participation: This is an offline activity. To ensure order, the number of participants is limited to 35. Please join the academic salon group (Figure 1) first, and fill out the form in the group to register, and the valid participation list will be based on the registration form (Figure 3).
