Topic: Classical Narratology Lecture 1: Narrative Perspectives in Chinese and Foreign Literature

Prior Reading: Chapter 5 “Narrative Perspectives” in Shen Dan’s Western Narratology: Classics and Post-Classics (2010, Peking University Press)

Synopsis: The Interdisciplinary Translation Center of the College of Foreign Languages at Jilin University will conduct a book reading activity on “Classical Narratology” based on the reading of the classic work Western Narratology: Classics and Post-Classics. This is the first reading session, and the main points of the reading include: the development process of perspective studies, narrators and perceivers, different modes of perspective, and examples of different perspectives. The literary works that will be discussed include Journey to the West, A Dream of Red Mansions, The House of Grass, The Great Gatsby, Emma, Heart of Darkness, Wuthering Heights and other classic Chinese and foreign literary works.

Participation: This is an offline activity. To ensure order, the number of participants is limited to 35. Please join the academic salon group (Figure 1) first, and fill out the form in the group to register, and the valid participation list will be based on the registration form (Figure 2).
