On February 15, 2021, on the fourth day of the first lunar month, the School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University, together with the Foreign Languages Branch of the Beijing Alumni Association of Jilin University, the Beijing Alumni Association of Jilin University, the Kapok Poetry Society of Jilin University, and the Hainan Alumni Association of Jilin University, jointly held an online reunion event with the theme "Celebrating the Year of the Ox and Welcoming the New Year in Hainan". At the beginning of the event, Feng Zhengyu, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin University, delivered a speech. Secretary Feng affirmed the spirit of "low profile, pragmatic, and loyal" of the alumni of Jilin University, praised the positive efforts and contributions made by the alumni in the construction of Jilin University, comprehensively interpreted the opportunities and advantages of the development of Jilin University under the new situation, and hoped that the alumni, together with the vast number of teachers and students, would contribute to the brilliant future of Jilin University. Zhang Meimei, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University, expressed her New Year greetings to all foreign language learners, introduced the development of the College and its achievements in recent years, expressed appreciation for the love of the alumni, and invited all alumni to actively participate in the construction of the School of Foreign Studies. Lin Xuefang, President of the Beijing Alumni Association of Jilin University, and Zhang Xiaomin, President of the Foreign Language Alumni Association of Jilin University, respectively delivered speeches to greet the vast number of alumni on the New Year, and expressed the blessings of the alumni of Jilin University on the Year of the Ox to their alma mater and all teachers and students. Xu Donghua, a national think tank expert and a special commentator on CCTV, Deng Yunling, founding chairman of the Foreign Language Alumni Association of Jilin University, Professor Wang Yaxing, a professor at Renmin University of China, Dong Aiwan, a member of Hainan Alumni Association of Jilin University, Xu Yanji, President of the Kapok Poetry Society of Jilin University, and Wang Ye, executive chairman of the Beijing Alumni Association of Jilin University, respectively analyze the status of Hainan in China's economic development and the opportunities it brings to the alumni of Jilin University from the perspectives of national policies, development prospects, and sojourn life.
The virus is merciless while humans are affectionate. Although it is not possible to gather face to face to celebrate the New Year under the influence of the pandemic, the atmosphere throughout the online reunion event is warm, fully reflecting the cohesion of alumni and their love for alma mater. Alumni have expressed their intention to continue to carry forward the New Year themed reunion event and make it a finished brand.".
Liu Changsong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Studies of Jilin University, also participated in the online reunion event, together with all members of the College’s leadership, faculties and student representatives, and alumni of Jilin University from Beijing, Hainan and other places.
