Professor Hitoshi Oshima visited School of Foreign Languages at Jilin University

At the invitation of the Department of Japanese and the Center for Japanese Studies, School of Foreign Languages, Professor Hitoshi Oshima visited JLU School of Foreign Languages and gave lectures from March 27 to 31, 2019. Professor Oshima is a highly respected researcher of comparative literature in Japan. He served as President of the Japanese Society of Comparative Literature (2011-2013), and is now a director of the International Society of Comparative Literature. He has made great contributions to the theoretical research of comparative literature.

During his visit, Professor Oshima delivered public lectures on "What Japanese Literature Has Learnt from the Han Civilization". Combining literature overview and explanations of specific examples, Professor Oshima presented a clear picture of the impact of Han Civilization on Japanese literature during its development from the ancient and modern to Edo literature. He also expounded the transverse and longitudinal associations of related issues from the perspective of comparative literature systematically. Teachers, undergraduate and graduate students attended the lectures.

Professor Oshima also discussed the methods and latest trends of Japanese literature study and comparative literature with the teachers from the Japanese Studies Center and postgraduate students from the Japanese Department. Professor Oshima spoke highly of the related research of teachers from the Japanese Research Center and put forward a dozen of thought-provoking questions on related research.
