At 14:00 on November 17, 2022, Director Wang Qingfeng of the JLU Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) visited the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) to meet the leading faculty and staff members for a discussion. Given the title "Face to Face with Academic Affairs", this is the fifth meeting the OAA had held with various schools and colleges. School officials from the OAA and other relevant departments, and the leadership team of the SFS and the deans of each department of the school attended this meeting. The meeting was hosted by Liu Changsong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the SFS.
First of all, on behalf of the college, Liu Changsong expressed his welcome to the special research activities carried out by Director Wang Qingfeng and his team, and expressed his sincere gratitude to the OAA for its long-term support and assistance to the SFS in undergraduate education and teaching work. Fang Ying, vice dean of SFS, introduced in detail the undergraduate teaching situation of the College in terms of talent cultivation, professional construction, faculty construction, teaching research achievements and awards. After that, the two sides discussed in depth some problems with undergraduate teaching at the SFS.
Wang Qingfeng fully affirmed the College of Foreign Studies' efforts in promoting discipline education and improving the quality of talent cultivation. He pointed out that SFS should give full play to the advantages of foreign language disciplines, put forward new ideas and strategies for talent cultivation, make full use of the "foreign language +" model, create an undergraduate talent cultivation system in line with its own characteristics and cultivate high-end foreign language talents, and put forward expectations for the next professional construction and talent cultivation work of the College. He said that the OAA will also continue to strengthen the effectiveness of its own management services to provide a strong guarantee for the cultivation of talents in foreign languages.
Finally, Zhang Maimei, Dean of SFS, concluded her speech by saying that the SFS will continue to focus on the fundamental task of "establishing moral education", attach great importance to talent cultivation, give full play to its disciplinary advantages and undergraduate teaching heritage, innovate talent cultivation thinking, and strive to build a high-quality undergraduate talent cultivation system with the characteristics of foreign language disciplines. She pledged that SFS will work together with OAA to cultivate more high-quality foreign language talents for the country.
